In traditional historical bazaars, declining spatial legibility and recent morphological changes have negatively impacted the quality of presence, challenging the vitality of public realms. This study aims to analyze the spatial structure of intermediate spatial systems and their relationship to enhancing presence quality in the Traditional Bazaar of Isfahan through a mixed-method approach integrating statistical analyses and space syntax theory. Presence-related criteria were extracted across four dimensions—environmental, physical, functional, and psychological—and evaluated through questionnaires and spatial analyses. The sample comprised 372 bazaar users, and data were analyzed using one-sample t-tests, ANOVA, and Friedman tests. Concurrently, qualitative spatial analyses—including Integration, Choice, Intelligibility, and Agent-based simulation—were performed. The findings indicate that functional (mean=3.60) and psychological (mean=3.45) dimensions significantly impact presence, with activity and vitality ranking highest in the Friedman test. Spatial analyses revealed that major squares (Integration=1.52), primary market routes (Choice≈1750), and major intersections (Charsu) have the highest connectivity and movement attraction. Conversely, gateways, corridors, and secondary intersections exhibited low spatial legibility (R²=0.11), necessitating targeted design interventions. A comparative synthesis of quantitative and qualitative results confirmed that spatial coherence within primary nodes directly enhances presence quality. Ultimately, the study proposes strategic interventions aimed at reinforcing spatial connectivity, improving perceptual quality, and strengthening social vitality. By providing a comprehensive operational framework, this research addresses existing analytical gaps and offers practical guidelines for regenerating historical bazaars in Iran.
